What Is a Breast Self- Examination?

This is maybe the most sensitive topic, even today, when we all have access to the internet and modern technologies. According to the keyword research services results, this term is maybe the most searched by women. You should be aware that breast self-examination needs to be on the annual physical exam checklist for females, but sometimes it’s not like that. Are they afraid to ask gynecologists, and does the internet have all the answers?

 Here is how it works:

The first thing you may want to know is that you can do this breast self-examination at home. Probably the best time is every month, about 3-5 days after your period starts. Also, in the case of menopause, it should be done at the same time every month. Try to follow these steps:

  1. Look at yourself in the mirror with your arms on your hips. The main reason why you’re using the mirror is to look for something that changes quickly. Pay attention to your breasts’ size and color, but if you notice something different, like swelling, redness, rash, or anything unusual, talk to the doctor.
  1. Raise your arms and look at both sides to see if there are any lumps. Then look at your nipples to see if there is any sign of the fluid from your nipples. It can be like blood, milky, or yellow fluid.
  1. Lay down, using your right hand to feel your left breast, and then repeat the whole process with the left hand on your right breast. Try to make small circles by using up to four fingers. Make sure to check the entire breast and assure that there is nothing to worry about.
  1. Finally, stand up, raise your right hand in the air, and repeat the previous step.

What to Do When You See The Changes?

If you find a lump, don’t panic. It’s hard to do that, and yes, this self-examination is for preventing breast cancer, but it’s not always the worst thing you can think of. Just calm down and remember that some breasts have some small lumps that are non-cancerous. There are so many harmless things that your period can solve. You should not contact your doctor right after you found changes.

Get yourself together, and start following that change for some time, and maybe it will disappear by itself.

Take Care of Yourself

The whole point of this procedure is to help you to get to know your body better and to always listen to it carefully. This can prevent some serious diseases like cancer if you find it early. Just try to make a few minutes for yourself every month, and put your health in the first place.
